INSTALLATION

Installation Instructions

TRAIN TRACK® comes with complete installation instructions as a separate document titled "Software Installation Instructions" or "SII". Please refer to this document when installing TRAIN TRACK®.

Installing the Trial Edition

The trial edition comes with an installer that will guide you through the installation. It will install everything you need; just follow the instructions on your screen. You may install TRAIN TRACK® on your local drive, or on a shared network drive. Please make sure all users have full permissions under Windows® for the folder you are using. The trial edition includes sample data for testing, or you may remove the sample data and enter your own. Use it free for 30 days, then automatically transfer your data to the licensed version.

Installing the Desktop Edition

The automated installation package will install the full program on your computer. Depending on the version you are installing, you may select to add an icon to your start menu, and install the help files. If you plan to share the database with multiple users, you will need to install it on a network drive that all of the users have access to. All users need to have FULL rights for the directory where TRAIN TRACK® is installed. You will also need to make sure the file is backed up regularly.

Installing the Client/Server Edition

The back-end database is installed using a SQL script. The user interface may be installed using the automated installer, or installed manually. The user interface needs to be installed on a workstation for each user.

Updating from a Previous Version

Always create a backup copy before you begin the upgrade process! If you are upgrading from a previous version, be sure to install TRAIN TRACK® into A NEW FOLDER. Once you install it into a new directory, you will be able to import the data from your current version during setup.

Moving TRAIN TRACK® to a New Location

With the Desktop edition, if you need to move TRAIN TRACK® to a different computer or a different location on the network, you may simply move the TRAIN TRACK® folder from where it is to the new location. You will have to update any shortcuts or links to TRAIN TRACK®.

Uninstalling

An uninstaller is included with the program installation. Just browse to where you installed TRAIN TRACK®, or use your start menu, and select Uninstall.
