TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

Platform

The application will function on most standard desktop or laptop computers. Specific requirements are listed below. For additional information, please see Installation.

TRAIN TRACK® Desktop edition is a self-contained Microsoft® Access® database file. You do not need to have Access® to use TRAIN TRACK®; you can install the FREE run-time version. Access® was chosen because it can be easily modified, even by the end-user with no programming experience.

TRAIN TRACK® Client/Server edition consists of a SQL Server® database installed on a network server, and Microsoft® Access® client applications installed on individual workstations.

TRAIN TRACK® is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit formats.

TRAIN TRACK® can be installed on a local drive, or a network drive for access by multiple users. For network use, all users must have full rights for the folder where you install the database, including the ability to create a file.

TRAIN TRACK® Web interface is an application that uses active server pages installed on your web server, and links to the same back-end database as the client interface. A hosted web edition is also available. Help information for the web interface is available separately. These help files cover the desktop interface only.

System Requirements

Desktop:

• A standard PC running Windows® 7 or better.
• Microsoft® Access® 2016 OR If you don't have Access® 2016, you may use the FREE run-time version. The full version of Access® is required to make modifications.
• At least 10 MB disk space.

Client/Server:

• An instance of Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 or better (you may use your existing version or SQL Server® Express which is free from Microsoft®).
• Standard PC workstation(s) running Windows® 7 or better.
• Microsoft® Access® 2016 (at least one copy available if you do not use the default settings). Workstations may use your existing version of Access® or the run-time version included with the installation files.
• An ODBC connection from your client machine to your server database.
• At least 20 MB disk space. Extremely large databases may require up to 50 MB.

Capacity

Desktop edition:

• Up to 2 GB of data (over 2 million records).
• 255 concurrent users.

The client/server edition does not have a limit on the amount of data or users; this is only limited by the configuration of your server.
