File is read-only
Q: I get an error message when I try to enter data, and it says the file is read-only but it's not read-only.
A: Please check the following:
1. Make sure the file has been extracted from the zip file.
2. Right-click on the FILE and select "Properties". In the properties box, make sure the "read-only" box is un-checked. Go to the "Security" tab and make sure the user is assigned "Full Control".
3. Right-click on the FOLDER where the file is installed and select "Properties". In the properties box, make sure the "read-only" box is un-checked. Go to the "Security" tab and make sure the user is assigned "Full Control".
If the file is still read-only, test to see if the user can create a new file within the folder where TRAIN TRACK is installed. If the user cannot create a new file, then folder permissions are causing TRAIN TRACK to open as read-only.
Explanation: When the program is opened, it creates a database locking file to keep track of which users are editing which records. If it cannot create this file, the user cannot edit any records.
